A 1912 spirit photograph by William M. Keeler featuring the spirit of Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) - French military and political leader who became Emperor of France from 1804 to 1814. He is renowned for his military prowess but his ambition ultimately led to his defeat and exile to Elba before his final defeat at the Battle of Waterloo.

An article titled “How to Make Spirit Photographs” from the August 25th, 1916 edition of South Side Signal. This article explains how to make spirit photographs by printing from regular negatives onto printing-out paper, fixing the prints in a hyposulphite of soda solution, and then immersing them in a bichloride of mercury solution. To reveal the spirit photograph, moisten a piece of blotting paper and hold it in contact with the print.

An advertisement in the July 26th, 1913 edition of Light for James Coates' book, Photographing the Invisible. The advertisement states the book "traces the history of 'Spirit Photography' in during the past forty years, and gives a lucid account of its remarkable progress". Coates describes his own experiences and techniques for capturing images of spirits and analyzes the work of others in the field, while also exploring the history and methods of spiritualism.
